The Strange, Fascinating History of the Vibrator | Sex & Relationships | AlterNet.

Sad story, as usual.

What the hell is wrong with the fucking imbeciles who distort everything through the lens of fear, and repressed desire?

A lot can be laid at the feet of religion, in particular the monotheistic cults. But the control of sexual partners goes back even further, in my view.

In order to be assured of intimacy and sex, people created emotional dependency. An outgrowth of biological dependency, such as that of the child for its parent, emotional dependency is really an infantile form, which projects the demands of an emotional infant on the sexual partner. “If you do not fulfill my needs, I will scream and cry, and kick and make you miserable…”

The right-wing male cults are clearly not fulfilled in their sexuality. If they are gay, they must be so behind closed doors, while deprecating those who are freely open with their affections.

If they are not gay, they view intelligent women as threats, and are demeaning, abusive and intolerant in every way towards them.

They seek submission, or abject fealty from the women around them, even if she is dressed in diamonds and fur, she is no more than a living mannikin for his power and wealth.

What if Making Babies Isn’t the Real Reason for Having Sex? | | AlterNet

Yeah! What if consciousness is not defined by matter, but exists in its own dimension? And sex, drugs and music (which was a great combo way before rock n roll, of course) are nature’s intended pathways to find our way back to that transcendent awareness… the awareness that we lose by being born into the material world.

The “Hero’s/Heroine’s Journey” always passes through the gates perilous, and sword or chalice at full attention, the sojourner finds in ecstatic visions the power of  see beyond the veil of birth and death to orgasmic eternal present.

Starhawk’s The Spiral Dance was an early introduction to the Goddess path.

I’m always grateful for her deep and sharp insight.

Why Are Men Always Expected to Make the First Move in Sex and Relationships? | Sex & Relationships | AlterNet.

It’s a good question. Of course, I don’t know that it’s “expected” as much as it’s just typical mammalian behavior.

Some of these authors might want to listen first with their body, then consider what they hear. Again, Leonard Shlain has plenty to say about this!

Art of the Accidental Penis | Top Cultured.

Why are these so hilarious?

I think penises are really pretty ridiculous, and the more so because men take them so seriously! On the other hand, they are exquisitely ‘designed’ for pleasure and perhaps the juxtaposition of the anthropomorphic phallus in peculiar situations stimulates laughter out of embarrassment or even envy!

There’s a lot of further phallosophising to do on this topic, but for now, check out the gallery above ;-)

Self-Flagellation… really.

Posted: under deviant repression, Shlain Sex, Time & Power.

Excerpt from Leonard Shlain, Sex, Time and Power.

Adding to the complications of near starvation was the religious practice of self-flagellation, which the Church tacitly encouraged. A whip applied to the thick skin of the back excoriated it, leaving long superficial lacerations, not deep enough to cause death but severe enough to cause bleeding and anemia. These wounds. superimposed on a body reeling from the effects of incipient starvation. would then begin to suppurate. A low-grade bacterial infection would incrementally add to the debility of one who had scurvy anemia, and starvation. These conditions would coalesce just as Easter approached.

The mental states of many people were so affected by these dietary deficits and systemic toxicities that whole cities had mass hallucinations. Clerics in an age of extreme religiosity assumed that they were bonafide revelations. One wonders how many “visions” were due to cholesterol starved, ascorbic-acid-deficient, linoleic acid-deprived, amino-acid-depleted neurons trying to cope with the toxicity associated with a subclinical streptococcal and/or staphylococcal infection. The predictable result: the overt syndrome of delirium.
Such are the hidden factors that may influence history.
